THE SIXTH GENERATION
| As the 21st
century nears, most of the Captains sixth generation descendants are children or
teenagers. Thus far, six have been identified but there undoubtedly will be many more. The sixers have made a fast start with the two sons of Roy C. and Sharon Kirkman of Boulder, CO, young men who have embarked on impressive careers
United States Air Force first lieutenant David Christian Kirkman currently is the co-pilot of a KC-135 Stratotanker crew based at Fairchild AFB, Spokane, WA. Born Feb. 14, 1973 in Boulder, Dave is the eldest son of Roy and Sharon Kirkman and the familys fireplug (5'7" and 180 pounds). He was a student-athlete at Boulders Fairview High School: a tailback, linebacker and captain on the football team; a pitcher and right fielder on the baseball team, and a member of the National Honor Society.
A bright guy, Dave attended Colorado State University on an Air Force Reserve Officers Training program scholarship and graduated with a degree in computer science. He then won his Air Force pilots wings in December 1997 after learning to fly at Vance AFB, Enid, OK, and Randolph Field and Lackland AFB, TX. Dave became a KC-135 pilot at Alpus AFB, OK and is now a member of the 96th Air Refueling Squadron of the Air Mobility Command.
"This is one great job," he says. "I love to fly; theres nothing like it in the world." Dave recently spent a month at Mildenhall Royal Air Force Base in the United Kingdom and flew midair refueling missions over France, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia and Ireland. As yet, Dave hasnt decided whether hell be a career Air Force officer or fly commercial jetliners. Dave also was an Eagle Scout in his fathers Boy Scout troop in Boulder and a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and an AFROTC academic officer at Colorado State. He owns a home in Spokane.
John Clifton Kirkman, the younger son of Roy and Sharon Kirkman of Boulder, CO, is an electrical engineer who plans and designs lighting systems for commercial and residential buildings. Born Nov. 26, 1975, John also graduated from Boulders Fairview High School where he was a linebacker and tight end on the football team and a shotputter and discus heaver on the track team. The taller of Roy and Sharons sons, hes 6 feet and 185 pounds. John also is an alumnus of Colorado State University where he won an electrical engineering degree and was vice president and treasurer of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He began his professional career with Belfray Engineering Co. of Denver in 1998. Another of the many Eagle Scout Kirkmans, John was a member of his fathers Boy Scout troop in Boulder and a high adventurer, in his case, a cave explorer in South Dakotas Medicine Mountains. John has an apartment in Boulder. |
